We understand that sometimes the most important consideration in choosing a college art department is the intangible—the “vibe” one gets by actually visiting. The Department of Art and Appalachian State invites you to visit us for a free Information Meeting at Wey Hall. You can meet with a faculty adviser to learn more about our degree programs, get informal advice about portfolio preparation and admissions procedures, and discuss what career paths might be most exciting for you based on your art work. The adviser won't judge or criticize you or your artwork. It’s a fun and relaxed introduction to our creative environment, of which you might one day decide to become a part.
When visiting the art department, you are encouraged to bring art work, parents, family and friends. Above all, bring your questions about what opportunities might be waiting for you. Our faculty advisers are ready to help you better understand your potential as you explore your future in art and design. Information meetings generally include a tour of the facilities in Wey Hall. If you choose to bring a portfolio, you can bring digital images on a laptop or thumb drive, or a portfolio of original artwork (no more than 15-20 pieces please).
Appointments for Information Meetings, which generally last about one hour, can be made by e-mailing Professor Mike Grady at email@example.com. Meetings may be scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3:30–6:00 p.m. or Wednesdays between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. It is recommended that you coordinate your visit with the Office of Admissions to get general information about admissions procedures, housing and financial aid as well as a tour of the university. The Office of Admissions must be contacted separately.
We're looking forward to helping you learn more about the Department of Art at ASU and helping you on your creative journey.
Every fall and spring semester, the university hosts an open house at the Holmes Convocation Center. You can learn more about the majors, programs and services offered at ASU and talk with members of the Department of Art’s faculty and staff. When the program at the Convocation Center ends, we invite you to visit us in Wey Hall where you can tour our building, peek into our studios and talk with some of our faculty.
