Hui Chi Lee, an assistant professor in studio art, focuses on drawing, painting, and mixed media. She received her BFA from the University of Arizona, MS in Art Therapy & Art Education from Illinois State University, and a MFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Florida.

As her principle subject matter, her current body of work incorporates the human form and hair to explore quandaries in human relationships. Her primary media are graphite and mechanical lead pencils, which are used because of their unique ability to capture subtleties and details that she seeks to emphasize. To transcend the boundaries of two-dimensional art, she has printed her drawn images onto textiles and incorporated real human hair in site-specific installations.

Her works have been exhibited in Asia, Europe, and across the United States, including among others, the Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan; TAG bxl gallery, Belgium; San Diego Art Institute’s Museum of Living Artist; and, the Museum of Fine Arts at Florida State University. In 2016, she had a solo exhibition at the Fitzgerald Fine Arts Gallery (New York), which also represents her work at various international art fairs, such as Art Southampton (2016), and Scope Miami Beach (2015).

She was the recipient of Eco Art Project grant from LexArts, Kentucky, and the Al Smith Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council in 2013. She also has received Faculty Development/Research Funds from Appalachian State University for the summer of 2016.
