The gallery that teaches

Housed in the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, the Smith Gallery is a vibrant contemporary art space. The Smith presents original and traveling exhibitions, features work by faculty and students at the university, and commissions daring new art in all of its forms.

As a teaching gallery, the Smith supports a wide range of curricula at the university and produces public programs that serve both the university and local communities. The gallery involves students in all aspects of its work and functions as a learning laboratory for honing curatorial, presentation and installation skills.

The Smith is committed to cultural equity and sustainability in keeping with the university’s mission and to providing resources for critical engagement with contemporary issues.
